Points of Light Institute mobilizes individuals to enact change in their communities by sponsoring engaging volunteer opportunities across the country. Points of Light’s volunteer-action division, HandsOn Network, is partnering with 9/11 Day to organize a nationwide day of charitable service to commemorate the 10th anniversary of 9/11 and the national spirit of unity that followed the attacks. The initiative encompasses scheduled community projects in a variety of cities, with the goal of completing a total of one million acts of service.
In the Chicago area, Points of Light Institute will equip and mobilize volunteers with the tools and funding necessary to complete a local service project organized by Chicago Cares and the Chicago White Sox. Volunteers from the White Sox Volunteer Corps will work to rejuvenate George B. McClellan Elementary School on the South Side. Caring cadets plan to revive the school with color and greenery, painting the exterior, designing murals and mosaics, and landscaping the school’s outdoor spaces. Though HandsOn Network has a schedule full of events planned across the country, the organization is still in need of the materials necessary to complete many projects, including trash bags, gloves, interior and exterior paint, and paintbrushes.
Join G-Team and donate $10 to help sponsor a day of service that will honor the anniversary of 9/11. If G-Team members raise $500, then Points of Light can purchase tools and supplies for charitable service projects across Chicago. Each additional $10 raised will go toward funding more service projects during that weekend. G-Team members who want to volunteer can also sign up for opportunities in their communities.
Unlike traditional Groupon deals, G-Team campaigns typically don't offer you a "discount" or "savings."
