Zoo Check Canada promotes the safety and well-being of wild animals at zoos, aquariums, and performance venues via research, public-awareness campaigns, and litigation. The organization’s Keep It Wild! program teaches elementary-school students about animals and animal welfare in half-day workshops filled with science-based activities promoting a sense of responsibility to the environment and its varied denizens.
Designed to meet expectations of the Ontario science-and-technology curriculum, the in-class workshops enrich day-to-day learning with age-appropriate hands-on investigations and interactive games. To avoid the exploitation of wild animals, Keep It Wild! leaders engage with students using these tools instead of bringing live animals into classrooms. A Grade 1 workshop lets students create a life-sized model of an elephant, test an elephant-ear replica in the cold, and learn about pachyderms living in captivity. Grade 5 students, meanwhile, compare chimp and human fingerprints and discover whether their memories are as strong as a monkey’s.
Join G-Team and donate $10 to help teach children about animal welfare. If G-Team members raise $350, then Zoo Check Canada can fund four half-day workshops on animals and environmental stewardship, with all donations matched up to $2,000 by an anonymous donor. Each additional $175 raised will fund another half-day workshop.
Unlike traditional Groupon deals, G-Team campaigns typically don't offer you a "discount" or "savings." So "buyer" beware—when you click "Buy" to donate your time or money to a worthwhile G-Team cause, the only discount you may receive is 100 per cent off free, priceless karma. Read more about G-Team.
