What started a decade ago as an annual showcase in New York has grown into an international brand, building audiences for world music with stages at SXSW, Bonnaroo and beyond. Now, the multi-cultural phenomenon known as globalFEST embarks on its first multi-city tour, coming to DC with Creole Carnival, a melting pot of folk, soul, blues and more. You'll see Jamaican-born guitar virtuoso Brushy One-String, who specializes in an innovative, mind-blowingly funky style of single-string strumming. Also on the bill is Emeline Michel, who's been dubbed "the Joni Mitchell of Haiti." With a voice that The New York Times called "serene and warm like a breeze," Michel's garnered acclaim across the globe for her signature blend of jazz, pop and samba rooted in native Haitian musical traditions. Casuarina, one of Brazil's most respected samba bands, rounds out this Lisner Auditorium lineup.
