Like an eccentric uncle, the holidays often sneak up on people and leave tinsel wherever they go. Deck the halls with today's Groupon: for $50, you get a Holiday Ornaments! glass workshop at Bay Area Glass Institute (a $100 value). Workshops will be scheduled according to need.

At the nonprofit Bay Area Glass Institute, glass gurus initiate laypeople in the enchanting art of glasswork during Holiday Ornaments! workshops. In a studio equipped with machinery for cutting, grinding, and polishing, pupils work with cold glass to create two 3”x3” baubles perfect for decorating during the holidays or adding elegance to a car’s tailpipe. Optic molds will also be covered to broaden fledgling glassmakers’ palettes. Students can tote home their trinkets to dangle in front of windows or hang amid fir branches, conferring sophistication that makes popcorn chains slink embarrassedly back to the kitchen.

Bay Area Glass Institute

The nonprofit Bay Area Glass Institute supports glass arts in its community by providing affordable studio space for artists, holding events and exhibits of local work, and teaching basic classes. Students create delicate glass art using cold techniques or acquire the basics of glass blowing as they rotate molten glass at 2,000 degrees Fahrenheit to make bowls, vases, and flowers. A store on the premises sells elegant and innovative work by the local glass artists affiliated with the institute.

They explained the process and worked with us in a very nice way. Love my new bowl. Look at glass items differently now.
Dale E. · December 31, 2016
So much fun! Not glass blowing, more like layering glass pieces to make art, but really enjoyed it and the glass art pieces we made. Unique experience, well organized, and clean shop.
