Before modern cinema, the term motion picture referred to tossing children’s artwork out the window. Hold on to your finger paintings with today's Groupon: for $175, you get a Festival pass to the 2012 Dallas Film Festival (a $350 value). The festival is scheduled to run from April 12 to April 22.
Deemed one of 25 Film Festivals Worth the Entry Fee in 2010 by Movie Maker, the Dallas Film Festival annually screens more than 800 new motion pictures from nearly 50 countries. Championing Hollywood entrants, independent flicks, and international cinema, the festival's competition awards filmmakers with more than $270,000 in prize winnings divided among categories such as Narrative Feature, Environmental Visions, Student Short Film, and Excellence in Slow-Motion Explosions.
A Festival pass grants patrons admittance to all regular film screenings, access to panel discussions attended by directors and actors, eligibility to purchase additional tickets in advance of the festival's public box-office opening, and invitations to membership-only festival box-office days. The Dallas Film Festival must sift through more than 6,000 submissions before announcing its forthcoming lineup in March 2012, so festival-goers have plenty of time to buff lucky bowling balls in preparation for receiving celebrity autographs.
