Desert Adventures leads thrill seekers through sun-painted wilderness and past breathtaking shorelines on full- or half-day land and water excursions. The four–six-mile hot-springs hike departs at 8 a.m. daily and returns around 4 p.m. Journeys into the depths of Black Canyon reveal ancient petroglyphs and the bighorn sheep that painted them. Tall canyon walls frame hikers as they pass by bubbling springs and lounge beneath rocks painted in red sunlight while enjoying an afternoon lunch. In addition to comfy but sturdy walking shoes, Desert Adventures recommends these footslogging accouterments.
Half-day kayaking tours run from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. every day except Sunday, launching from the shores of Lake Mead. First-time boaters join experienced guides for a 3-mile three-hour paddle, exploring the Boulder Islands and devising plans to annex them as a sovereign state. Leisurely hikes jut out onto sandy beaches, culminating with refreshing swims in pristine waters. Kayaks, paddles, and life vests are provided, while additional recommended gear may be found here.

About Desert Adventures
After noticing a lack of guided outdoor-excursion opportunities, James Dingess founded Desert Adventures in 2004 to help locals and visitors to take advantage of Nevada’s stunning natural landscapes. What began as a small paddling outfit with a handful of kayaks and a single employee has since expanded to include ATV, mountain biking, and time-travel adventures led by knowledgeable guides. Desert Adventures stays true to its kayaking roots with a fleet of 125 shells and half- to four-day Colorado River runs. Guides also lead multiday, multisport excursions combining various activities, as well as high-speed ziplining tours that careen from the top of Red Mountain to the base of Bootleg Canyon. Most adventures accommodate all skill levels, but some carry experience or age restrictions.
