What You'll Get
The earliest history museums had little actual history to draw on, and instead padded exhibits with wildly speculative displays about how dinosaurs would be elected to Congress by the year 2000. See how far we’ve come with today’s Groupon to the Museum of Transportation. Choose between the following options:
For $55, you get a Locomotive Loot holiday card for $110 worth of admission, membership, and activities, which may be used over multiple visits.

- For $15, you get a museum outing for four (up to a $40 total value) that includes:
- Admission for four (up to a $6 value each)
- Four miniature train rides (a $4 value each)

Founded in 1944, the Museum of Transportation maintains more than 70 locomotives, many of which are the sole survivors of their kind, in a collection praised by Frommer’s as one of the most comprehensive collections of American rail power. Explore the museum and ogle a 1958 wood-burning Big Boy, the world’s largest steam engine, and a 1920s Pullman sleeping car that adorably rolls in place as it dreams. A more than 200-piece automobile collection includes the only operational Chrysler turbine car on public display, and other exhibits focus on additional modes of transportation, such as tugboats, airplanes, and saddled porcupines. Visitors chug around the museum’s parking lot aboard a miniature train ($4/ride), and wee ones age 1–5 explore hands-on activities at the Creation Station ($1.50/person per hour).
Use the value of today’s Groupon toward admission ($6 for adults; $4 for children age 5–12; free for children 4 and younger) or one of six tiers of membership. Memberships start at the Coachman level ($40), which grants free admission for a year to two adults and four children, invitations to special events, and 10% off at the Boxcar Boutique, which sells books, DVDs, and wooden train whistles ideal for calling a boardroom meeting to order. The Conductor ($60) level sweetens the deal with stamps for miniature train rides or the Creation Station, and higher levels include perks such as a museum tote bag or a commemorative brick on Legacy Lane. Or apply $75 worth of Locomotive Loot toward a Creation Station birthday party for a doppelganger.

About Museum of Transportation
The Museum of Transportation sprawls across 129 acres, presenting its vast collection of automobiles, boats, planes, and trains dating from the mid-1800s to the present day. More than 70 massive locomotives reside in the museum, including the largest successful steam locomotive, the Union Pacific Big Boy. Explore rare autos—including a motor carriage dating back to 1901 and rides owned by Dean Martin and W.C. Fields—and a fleet of military aircraft. A miniature locomotive leads a following of bright-red cars around the museum grounds, and the hands-on Creation Station gives tots aged 5 and under the opportunity to familiarize themselves with modes of transportation outside of diesel-powered strollers.
