Last Christmas I purcahsed a Groupon for my husband to be able to take his son(11) for a flight lesson introduction. This last Friday they finally went and had a blast!! We're hoping they'll be able to take lessons in the future. His son spends much of his spare(non-sports-related) time on the computer doing flight simulations. I am hoping that I'll be able to give him they same sort of Groupon as soon as he's old enogh to be allowed to fly the plane. Thanks for making me look good by showing them a great time!!

What You'll Get

The human obsession with flight stems from a refusal to accept limitations and an intense desire to finally move out of gravity's basement. Claim your own airspace with today's Groupon to Wings Aloft. Choose between the following options:

  • For $969, you get an Introduction to Flying package (a $1,778 value), which includes:
    • 50 hours of ground-school flight training (a $495 value)
    • Four hours of Cessna 172 aircraft rental (a $532 value)
    • All in-flight instruction (a $288 value)
    • All preflight and postflight instruction (a $288 value)
    • Wings Aloft membership (a $175 value)

  • For $139, you get an Introductory Flight lesson (a $252 value).

Aspiring pilots may bring up to two guests with them at no additional charge.

Helmed by a veteran team of sky jockeys, Wings Aloft sets aspiring aviators on the path to air-worthiness. Those who want to dip their toes in aviation's cool waters can sign up for the two-hour Introductory Flight lesson, which provides a roughly one-hour preflight briefing before sending students skyward for 50–60 minutes of flight time. The quick jaunt through the clouds puts beginners at the controls while instructors watch from the passenger's seat, offering guidance and preventing the uninitiated from attempting a barrel roll or steering with their teeth.

The Introduction to Flying package furnishes students with 50 hours of dedicated instruction, combining lectures, group discussions, and practical exercises with four hours of in-flight training to impart the knowledge required to obtain either a private or instrument pilot license. Two instructors lead each ground-school course, going over the operation of myriad flight controls, aeronautical gauges, and emergency gumball dispensers that form the foundation of any aircraft cabin. Students test their skills throughout four hours of flying time, flitting about through the troposphere under the watchful eyes of an experienced FAA-certified instructor. The package also includes a Wings Aloft membership, which grants access to Wings' stable of well-maintained planes, and a loaner Private Pilot kit, which is required for the ground-school course. The loaner kit is included with this deal.

The instructors are matched with students based on personality fits, and their instructional flight programs mix and match ground and in-flight lessons to teach students that staying airborne requires more than a pair of pigeon wings. The membership program also grants access to Wings Flying Club's Cessnas, and rental of their planes allows pilots to fly from city to city with proper clearance and large jet-stream hearts.
