If you don't already live in Schaumburg, you're probably thinking, "Yes! An excuse to drive to Schaumburg!" But seriously: City-dwellers know there's a special place in Hell for the drive to Schaumburg. So, you're probably wondering: Given that most Groupon customers live in the city, why would we ask you to make such an awful trip?
The answer is simple: Schaumburg is awesome. With all their great stuff, sooner or later you'll need to make the trip - and armed with today's Groupon, the hardships of the journey will be that much more bearable. Remember that nothing worth doing comes easily. Schaumburg is 40 minutes from the city for the same reason that chocolate cake makes you fat: If there was no cost for such pleasure, Chicagoland would quickly degrade into a den of apathetic hedonists.
What makes Schaumburg so exceptional, you ask?
First, The Woodfield Mall. Woodfield is THE mall. It's like a mall of malls. It's like drinking from a mall fire hose. If you live in the city and you're occasionally like, "man, it would be cool to go to a mall," then you definitely want to go to Woodfield - no mall experience will curb your mall cravings faster and longer. Woodfield is where the evil mall geniuses run experiments - launching new stores, building ski slopes, installing pneumatic tubes for human transportation, etc. Going to Woodfield is like wanting ice cream, and then having a gallon of Haagen Dazs dropped on you from a 10-story building, and then lying on the ground with a concussion for three hours while the broken container leaks melty deliciousness into your mouth. You need to go to this place.
Second, IKEA: Everyone wants an excuse to go to IKEA. And with today's Groupon, you can skip the cafeteria's Swedish meatballs and go to Pete's for a prime steak.
Which brings us to the star of today's Groupon, Pete Miller's Seafood & Prime Steak. If you like steak, you'll love Pete Miller's. They use prime cuts of beef, dry aged at least 28 days to produce juicy, flavorful and tender steak. While you eat, you'll enjoy some world-class jazz from top musicians like Stanley Turrentine and Bobby Broom.
If your stomach is in the ocean, Pete's also has plenty of seafood options. Our favorite is the Alaskan King Crab, steamed and served with drawn butter. If you want to focus on the jazz and enjoy a low-key dining experience, burgers and appetizers at the bar should strike the right chord.
Pete Miller's is a Chicagoland area name synonymous with the highest-quality meat, so sharing some rave reviews in order to convince you of the value of today's Groupon is probably unnecessary. That notwithstanding, here's what some Yelpers had to say about their Schaumburg location:
- "I was here for dinner recently with 4 friends. I had the 16 oz. NY Sirloin, which was done perfectly (med. rare) with their delicious mashed potatoes included with the entree. The bread served there is fantastic." - Rich W.
- "I come here for the live jazz that is free and almost every single day. The beer selection is surprisingly good for a steak franchise. The wait staff is very helpful and attentive. And when I went we had to split the check like 6 ways; which is a total pain in the ass. But the guy did it and didn't even complain." - Aloysius T.
Schaumburg is a carefully engineered balance of cost and benefit, pleasure and pain. For example, every time they add a new high ropes course to Woodfield, they remove a lane of traffic on Touhy Avenue. But today's Groupon upsets the balance, tipping the scales and making Schaumburg so worth the trip. This may send Chicago into a gratuitous death spiral of Schaumburgian extravagance. So don't get locked out of Caligula's temple - get your Groupon.
