What You'll Get

Learning a new craft creates a sense of accomplishment, which increases self-confidence and makes you want to run for mayor. For $25, today's Groupon gets you a 2.5-hour craft crash course of your choice at Hands-on 3rd (a $49 value). Hands-on 3rd is a craft studio offering a variety of workshops, as well as private and semiprivate lessons (nearby animals are allowed to watch through the windows).

Your class can be in the craft of your choice, provided it is a crash course. A full schedule can be viewed on the website (crash courses are highlighted in green)—though additional classes will be added to meet demand as needed (minimum four students required per class). Master the basics of knitting, learn to crochet, build a terrarium, or take a sewing course in which you’ll learn machine-stitch technique and make your own zipper coin purse for your collection of Pogs.

Whichever class you choose to take, materials and starter kits will be provided for you, unless you have items you'd like to bring from home to add to your craft (such as in the jewelry-making class). As insinuated by the name of the business, Hands-on features an approach to crafting that involves hands and sends you home with actual skills in your hands. Call to schedule your class.

About Hands-on 3rd

Student-created artwork lines the white walls of Hands-on 3rd's two studio spaces, the second of which belongs to partner company Art Works. The organizations share talented instructors, filling up the schedule at each location with drawing, painting, and sculpting classes from Art Works and yarn-work and sewing classes from Hands-on 3rd's staff. Whether a project requires a fresh stick of charcoal or a darning needle, an ample inventory arms students with the supplies needed to finish their projects, such as sketching a mustache on a dozing deskmate.
