A Chat with HAPKIDO VANCOUVER
What services does your business offer and what makes your business stand out from the competition?
Hapkido Vancouver has been around for over 30 years. We practice a Korean style of self-defense called Hapkido. Hapkido is not a sport. Everything you learn with us is meant to keep you safe, not score you points.
What’s one tip for first-time students that will make them feel like veterans?
Good technique is about leverage and positioning; it’s not about strength. Be comfortable with who you are and how you’re built because it’s all you need to apply what we teach.
What was the inspiration to start or run this business?
Hapkido Vancouver is a club more than a business. We all go to our own day jobs, but then come together in the evenings to practice and teach. We do it to better ourselves, develop the art, and pass it on to others.
What do you love most about your job?
There’s endless variety in martial arts. Our students and instructors practice not only Hapkido, but also boxing, jiu-jitsu, kali, you name it. The fun part is mixing and matching, adding a new twist to old techniques. Martial arts is meant to evolve and we like being on the leading edge.
