About Happy Jacks Restaurant and Patio
For nearly half a century, there's been a Happy Jack serving Chinese cuisine on the Niagara River. When the restaurant opened in 1967, it was Jack Chew. Alongside his wife, Wendy, Jack poured everything he had into his humble 40-seat diner overlooking the Peace Bridge. Today, it's Jack Jr.—along with his brothers Jeff and Alvin—who carries on that tradition.
Of course, the new generation has also established some traditions of their own. The tiny diner has since expanded to a luxurious restaurant with room for hundreds of guests, and that's just on the inside. In the summertime, guests can sit out on the patio and enjoy the same sweet and sour chicken and egg foo young that Jack Sr. and Wendy served so many years ago. Given the restaurant's close proximity to water and regular tithe paid to the river god, it should come as no surprise that the seafood has earned a sterling reputation. Locals know to look out for the live lobster specials and Alaskan king crab legs.
