Q:

My husband is allergic to seafood, is there an alternative menu for customers who are allergic to seafood for this particular groupon? Thanks!

Hi One and All, In order to answer as many questions in a succinct and consistent manner, we have listed a FAQ to address most commonly asked questions. Please take a look, and if your question is not answered below, we will respond individually also. HART HOUSE GROUPON FAQ: FAQ: Q: Do any of the courses have pork in it? My friend cannot eat pork for religious reasons. A: There is pork on the main course. That element of the dish can be removed by the chef. Let your waiter know. Q: I have a Gluten Allergy, can I order the six course menu? A: Gluten is present in the Cannelloni dish and the dessert. Chef will modify these courses in the case of gluten allergies. Let your waiter know. Q: Just wondering what to do about a party of 6. Would we be able to get the Groupon for four and the Groupon for two and all sit together. Is that possible? A: We take our reservations by phone only, so based on available seating space in the restaurant, our reservationist can assist with your request on a case by case basis. Q: I am vegetarian...would the 6 course menu work for me? A: The six course menu is not designed as six vegetarian courses, so sadly no. However, we have vegetarian options on our A la Carte menu separate from the Groupon promotion. Q: Are drinks or alcohol included? A: No, the Groupon applies to the food only on the six course menu. We do have supplementary wine pairings available. Q: I have a seafood allergy. Can I have the six course menu? A: Chef will change the Sablefish course and omit the Scallops from your menu in this case. Substitutions are at the Chef’s discretion and ingredient availability. Let your server know ahead of time. Q: I don’t eat meat, but seafood is okay, what are my options? A: Chef will omit the Pork from the final savoury course. Substitutions are at the Chef’s discretion and ingredient availability. Let your server know ahead of time. Q: I have a nut allergy. Can I eat off this menu? A: Some guests with nut allergies are fine with pine nuts, and others are not. Let us know ahead of time, and ensure the server is aware of the severity of your allergy. We have and use nuts in the kitchen but do our utmost to ensure there is no cross over. The dessert will be modified by Chef. Let your server know ahead of time. Q: We are a party of 3 people. How does our third guest order? A: The third guest in your party can order the six course menu at full price, or off the a la carte menu. Q: We have children. Is this menu suitable for them? A: Everyone’s child is unique. We will let you decide as to whether they will enjoy the menu items, keeping in mind that it is an extended dining experience with many different flavours to express the kitchen’s creativity. We have had younger children and preteens enjoy every last bite. Q: We are a large party of 8, 9 or 10 and would like to use several Groupons together. Can we do that? A: The Groupon deal is limited to one per table. However, we take our reservations by phone only, and we have two locations in the dining room that can accommodate a group of that size, so based on available seating space and reservations in the restaurant, our reservationist can assist with your request on a case by case basis. Of course, availability for a larger table on weekdays is better than on the weekend. Q: I only have an hour or so to eat, will the six course menu take longer than that? A: Yes, the six course menu is a longer dining experience where guests get to enjoy the progression of dishes. We allocate 2 hours minimum for a table of 2 and 2/12 hours for a table of 4 or more. If you are in a rush, we suggest saving your reservation on the six course menu for a date where you have more time.

More Questions and Answers

Q:

Hello, another question in line with dietary restrictions. I'm lactose intolerant. Can the Chef modify the menu in this case as well?

Anja N.  asked on  Sep 5, 2013

A:

Hi Anja, There is cream and butter in many elements of the menu. While some modifications can be made, the integrity of the menu may be compromised based on the severity and level of sensitivity that one may have.

Q:

What is a tasting menu? Is it half of regular portions?

Svitlana H.  asked on  Sep 4, 2013

A:

A Tasting Menu is a multi-course dinner. Portions are adjusted so that guests can try multiple dishes without filling up on one individual course, but will be satisfied by the end of the meal. With a six course, the portions per course are approximately 1/3 to 1/2 size depending on the dish. Dessert is full sized. Guests have been very happy with the portions and flavors based on feedback from the first week of the menu.

Q:

Hi there, I have a gift certificate for $150 to Hart House. Would there be any way I could use this gift certificate towards the meal for 4?

Kevin S.  asked on  Sep 3, 2013

A:

Hi Kevin, The payment for the Groupon is completely separate from the restaurant and is processed through Groupon, so it can not be used towards your Groupon purchase. If it is a purchased Gift Certificate (not a promo for example) it could be used towards alcohol or beverages in conjunction with the six course Groupon.
