What You'll Get
A haunted house is born from a past tragedy, be it a grisly murder, a mysterious disappearance, or a long-forgotten bologna sandwich buried beneath the floorboards. Sign on for a spooky tour of an eerily cursed residence with today's Groupon: for $15, you get two admissions to the haunted-mansion tour from Haunted Abilene (a $30 value). Tours are held at Swenson House on Friday, October 21, and Saturday, October 22, beginning at 7 p.m.
The architects of spookiness behind Haunted Abilene thrill guests with ghoulish sights inside the historic Swenson House, which is carefully maintained by the Abilene Preservation League, as well as on its 2-acre grounds. As they meander through the halls of the stately manor, which was built in 1910, thrill seekers can take in both floors' eerie décor of cobwebs, flickering candles, and unfinished math exams. Then ghost gazers can head outside to a crackling campfire to hear kid-friendly spooky stories, in which yarn spinners recount terrifying tales of ghosts, goblins, and bad haircuts. Though not included in this Groupon, a la carte grilled hamburgers and hot dogs stand ready to fill stomachs that still have their appetites.
