It was easy to redeem the Groupon. I had a great experience and was able to see several Galapagos sharks and a sandbar. I recommend to go first thing in the morning, they said more sharks out and calmer water. We even saw humpback whales as we went out and came back in. The captain gave us a few minutes to watch the whales.

This experience was really cool as a couples activity. We took a boat out 3 miles and saw lots of sharks as promised. The only thing about this that was questionable is they were chumming the waters for the sharks. I’m not sure if this is ethical or legal.

This was an amazing excursion! The staff were friendly and good humored. They also educated us about the sharks and the ocean eco-system of Oahu. You spend about 20 minutes in the cage and it's awesome. I would recommend bringing a go-pro if you have one.

About Hawaii Shark Encounters

Three miles off the coast, the guides hand over the snorkels, and then it's time. Tour members climb down into the floating cage and slip just beneath the water's surface. There they peer through large poly glass windows into the deep blue ocean as swimming shapes, perhaps hazy at first, pull into focus.

When the tour-goers finally glimpse the creatures, it might not exactly be love at first sight, but one thing is for sure: after spending time face-to-face with a Galapagos, sandbar, or tiger shark, they'll leave that protected cage with a whole new appreciation for these carnivores of the deep. That's of the utmost importance to Hawaii Shark Encounters, since the company hopes to turn each person they meet into a "shark ally," an advocate for the animals' global conservation.
