Today's side deal to Haystack Vintage gets you $100 worth of vintage clothes, furniture, bikes, decorations, and more for $50. The creative folks at this charming vintage boutique in Lakeview curate a constantly rotating and interesting collection of high-quality vintage finds alongside local arts and crafts. Unlike the dusty piles of probably-nots you have to sort through at the thrift shop, Haystack's collection is artfully displayed throughout the store, with each item a proud proponent of its own potential possessionhood.
Haystack has something to suit every lover of un-new things. Pick up a vintage cotton plaid dress ($32) for your old-fashioned cocktail party, and show off your aesthetic flair with embroidered art from a local artist and poet ($40). Put your Groupon toward a big-ticket item such as a classic pink Schwinn ($120) or antique Singer and sewing table ($150). Haystack is a needle-stack with nary a scrap of useless hay.
- Come here for: The excellent organization of merch and the smart displays. Local artist Brian Heisler is responsible for the shop’s clever paper murals, hanging bird cages and use of frames to display items. – Time Out Chicago
- It is the cleverest of new shops around, boasting everything old (save for a few hip new T-shirts). The shop is tricked out in retro chairs, old books, drinking glasses, and side tables, as well as cool jewelry, clothing, and, when I was there, a banana-seat Schwinn. – Barri Leiner, Chicago Home + Garden
