The chefs at heart woodfire kitchen keep the eatery true to its name by filling its menu with tender, wood-oven-cooked meats and vegetables. Occupy fingers with a plateful of chili-rubbed beef short ribs ($8) or a slab of baked feta ($8) atop a crispy crostini doused in citrus jam, a drizzle of herb olive oil, and a notarized stamp of authenticity from the ambassador of Greece. Chicken breast ($13) turns within the rising flames of the rotisserie, waiting to be plated with a choice of decadent sides, from sweet-potato chips to crisp apple-and-celery-root slaw. Succulent pork shoulder ($13), enhanced with a hint of salsa verde, falls off the bone and into watering mouths or open pockets for later snacking.

Once an unfinished barn-like expanse, heart woodfire kitchen’s newly refurbished dining room envelops guests in a warm and welcoming glow marked by a soft yellow-and-green color scheme. A splash of industrial design enriches the room with shiny aluminum chairs tucked under tables and a wait staff clad in hardhats.

Heart Woodfire Kitchen

An open flame: humanity's first means of cooking, and the one preferred by Chef Glenn Christiansen. At Heart Woodfire Kitchen he eschews processed foods and microwaves—alongside any traces of pretension in his dining atmosphere—opting instead for a farm-to-table, back-to-the-earth approach that relies on local and seasonal ingredients. And given Charleston's year-round gorgeousness and springtime broccoli showers, it's farm-fresh ingredients aren't too hard to find.

Diners watch Glenn and his team bring these ingredients to the flame in an open kitchen. Rich aromas from rotisserie chickens, hand-made burgers, and flatbreads waft into the dining space and outdoor patio from an open-flame wood grill and authentic Italian Valoriani oven. These impart a distinct crispness to Heart Woodfire's signature speidie skewers and lend a delectable smokey flavor to the wood-fired vegetable stew and other vegetarian dishes.

Customer Reviews

Come hungry - the portions are generous and oh so good. It's a good 20 miles from our home, but we're already planning our next visit. Service is also excellent; I would heartily (haha) recommend the restaurant.
