Heavenly Chicken & Waffles
It was bachelorhood—with all of its characteristic one-man meals—that first spurred Heavenly Chicken & Waffles's founder, Aaron Sanders, to hone his cooking prowess. "My mother told me, 'Aaron, you're going to be single for a long time,'" he told a Model D journalist. "I don't know why she said that, unfortunately it did come true, but that's what made me started cooking." But it wasn't until a trip to New York City in 1998 that Sanders finally found his inspiration—chicken and waffles—at a historic Harlem eatery.
In the years since that trip, Sanders has given countless Michiganders their first taste of this soul-food classic. He and his team work tirelessly to make each bite scrumptious—they hand-pick the best Amish chicken wings and breasts, season them overnight, and whisk real milk and cream into the signature waffle batter. All this dedication to quality has earned his restaurant praise from neighborhood regulars as well as local press such as Fox 2.
