Heavenly Hot Dogs
In Rocco's parking lot, there's a food truck with a very tiny menu and a very big boast: "One bite and you will think you've died and gone to heaven!" This is Heavenly Hot Dogs, a no-nonsense pit stop serving up links and burgers. But even though the selection is small, owner Tom Fowler draws on more than 25 years of food industry experience to infuse each sausage or patty with gourmet flair. The quarter-pound "Famous Heavenly" hot dog, for instance, arrives piled with mustard, relish, onion, tomato, and cheese, and can be further heaped with bacon, peppers, sauerkraut, or ketchup if the chewer chooses. The same goes for the burgers and cheeseburgers, which also contain a special "Heavenly" sauce churned by condiment-loving cherubs. And Portlanders rejoice—the truck is the only spot in town to nibble on a Pronto Pup, a battered hot dog that eschews corn-based coating for the yummier vegetable known as "pancake."
