Experienced equestrian Van Heggelund learned horsemanship from his father, a world-champion horse trainer, and today passes on his vast wisdom to riders of all skill levels and ages. During private lessons, Van and his team of trainers emphasize creating a connection between student and steed, helping to relax horses and prevent riders from engaging saddles in conversation. To help customers acquire optimal results, staffers analyze each resident stallion daily to further refine its training regimen. All riding sessions occur amid Heggelund Training’s picturesque, well-equipped facilities, replete with tack rooms, a shaded seating area, and direct access to miles of trails. The ranch’s noble horses gallop through a tree-enclosed arena before returning to the barn’s cushy stalls to braid each other’s manes. Students should avoid wearing shorts and arrive dressed in riding-appropriate clothing, such as jeans or a full-body cast.

About Heggelund Training
In 1972, Al Heggelund was a world champion horse trainer with a stable full of award-winning horses he trained. His son Van Heggelund took over the business in 1978, following in his father's footsteps and raising world-show-qualifying horses. At the facility's new location in Valley Center, Heggelund's staff produces good-tempered working horses and teaches lessons in Western-style riding and horse training. Most of all, instructors lead adults and children in learning about the care and handling of the stable's gentle horses, including teaching them how to walk, trot, and roll over on the spacious mountain valley property.
