Great place to stay, very quaint , quiet, and near everything. LOTS OF STAIRS lol, ( we already knew) great little kitchen, loved that there was no phone, water pressure good just had to wait a bit for it to get hot, no biggie. Weather was nice so we only used fan one night, but there was air conditioning . Overall would return and stay again, oh great help from guys at counter, wonderful time.

People often do things in hotels that they would never do in their own homes, such as sleep soundly, watch Marley and Me, or let the kids drink as much shampoo as they want. Let loose with today's Groupon: for $249, you get two round-trip tickets on the Catalina Express and a two-night stay in a B or B+ room at the Historic Hermosa Hotel & Catalina Cottages, located in Avalon on Santa Catalina Island (up to a $533 value). Guests who schedule midweek stays can also choose between two complimentary tickets for a segway tour (a $100 value) or an activities package that includes mini golf for two, two movie passes, and two tickets for a walking ghost tour (a $66 total value).

A haven for generations of island beachcombers since opening its doors in 1896, the Historic Hermosa Hotel & Catalina Cottages offers accommodations near the inviting eddies of Avalon Bay. Wayfarers depart the mainland aboard the Catalina Express (a $70.50 value per person, including wharfage fee), the object of longing stares from merfolk as they commute to their undersea jobs in kelp factories. Drop anchor in one of Hermosa's rooms (rates vary by season and availability; up to a $175 per night value), then head out to explore the beachfront or practice various hand-shaking techniques on strangers in the historic main building's communal areas. Second- and third-floor balconies offer picturesque panoramas, and the lobby's free WiFi allows guests to keep up with sports scores, sports news, and the horoscopes of sports stars.

  • The location is great, very convenient and close to everything. – LaLa H., Yelp, 8/16/10
  • I think what made this stay so good was the people though. It felt like you were staying with friends. They had great recommendations for things to do and where to go, were friendly and available and made you feel like you were a guest in their home instead of hotel. – nmcrose, TripAdvisor

About Hermosa on Metropole LLC

Since opening in 1896, Historic Hermosa Hotel & Catalina Cottages has welcomed weary travelers strolling along the ocean while maintaining a commitment to simplicity and nostalgic charm. The main building hosts three levels of Victorian bay windows and balconies, which overlook the island's far-off mountains and tempt patrons to paint sweeping landscapes or blackmail the sun with pictures of it rising late. Villa archways and burnt-sienna steps lead guests upwards to three levels of studio-style cottages shaded by the blossoming limbs of overhanging trees. After settling into cable- and WiFi-equipped rooms, visitors follow the pied-puttering of golf carts to museums, gardens, and local attractions throughout the bayside resort town. The knowledgeable hotel staff organizes adventures such as zipline tours, bike rentals, and snorkeling tours, which allow guests to brush up on languages rarely used when speaking to aquarium-dwelling fish.
