Three men and a dog opened Vickery’s Bar & Grill back in 1983. The sitcom pilot never made it past the first focus group, but the restaurant endured. With today's Groupon, $10 gets you $20 worth of food at either the original Crescent Avenue location in Midtown or the new Glenwood Park location on Garrett Street.
On Vickery’s menu, you’ll find creative Caribbean-styled comfort foods, such as the sage and rosemary griddled flatbread with chorizo, apples, and warm goat cheese ($9.50); catfish and grits with chorizo sausage, jalapeno peppers, and onions topped with a roasted-jalapeno citrus beurre blanc ($14.50); and a low-country seafood sauté with crawfish tails, shrimp, crabmeat, and andouille sausage in herbed bourbon butter with creamy grits and spicy fried oysters ($19.50). Salads and sandwiches, such as the classic Cuban with house-marinated pork tenderloin, ham, and mustard ($9.50), stand alongside desserts, including apple shortcake with pecans ($5.50). Have one of the mix-maestro bartenders pour a potent cocktail for your important cockatiel, or scour the beer and wine list for the perfect pairing. The friendly and knowledgeable staff will cater to all your whims, wants, and wishes, as long as you don’t wish for more wishes—which they do not find amusing.
The quaint green house in Midtown that holds the sleek wood bar, high-backed red booths, red walls, and red bar stools makes for a kitschy and casual dining experience. For days of fair weather, patio seating is available, and a fireplace is perfect for cozy winter eves or anyone trying to covertly melt the candy bar in their jacket. Intriguingly, rumor suggests that Margaret Mitchell spent a winter writing the first draft of Gone with the Wind at the Midtown location. After filling up on food, fill up on culture at the High Museum of Art, the Margaret Mitchell House and Museum, or the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra.
If you opt for the slightly more upscale and modern Glenwood Park location, be sure to swing by the Zoo Atlanta, the Atlanta Cyclorama & Civil War Museum, or stay and play a round of bocce ball on the front lawn (finally a way to kill gophers "accidentally"!). Outdoor seating is also available, and a big bar waits inside.

- We've been to Vickery's Glenwood Park several times -- for lunch and dinner -- and it's always delightful on all counts. Great menu, great food -- the burgers are perfect and the ribs are yum and appetizers are really tasty. All of us liked everything we ordered. Inside, it's very cool-looking and really comfortable. The staff is especially nice. – lindamorrison333, Urbanspoon
- I absolutely love the atmosphere-- the red vinyl booths are great, very retro! My server recommended the ahi tuna salad with asian ginger dressing. The salad was very good as was the quality of the tuna-- much better than I expected considering they bill themselves as a "bar." – smatl, Citysearch
- It was fantastic!! The Salmon BLT was the best sandwich I have ever had. – OpenTable user who dined on 10/16/2009
