The Deal

  • $169 for One Dogsledding Adventure with Husky Racing Team for One Person ($400 value)

Hilltown Wilderness Adventures harnesses canines to snug sleighs, sending dog-drawn mushers on exhilarating adventures through the foothills of the Berkshires. Pairs of bipeds join alaskan huskies for a meet and greet, petting the pooches and feeding them snacks. Then, before taking the reins, guests are coached in groups of up to 18 by experienced dogsledders, led by Marla BB—whose experience as a dogsled-racer in Alaska and other frozen climbs has garnered the attention of Valley Advocate, Animal Planet, and PBS. This coaching sessions includes tips for harnessing and handling the dogs and driving the sled as well as info on the history of mushing. During the dogsled run, the sleigh slices swift tracks into snow packed by brawny paws as mushers slink around trails carved into picturesque forest terrain. Here, guests have the chance to drive their own three- to four-dog team following the lead of a professional musher.

Hilltown Wilderness Adventures

The proprietor and chief guide behind Hilltown Wilderness Adventures, Marla BB, invites patrons to hitch their dreams of adventure onto the backs of her alaskan huskies for mushing, skijoring, and outdoor excursions in the Berkshires. Her hallmark attraction is mushing through both snowy hills and on dryland tracks—a unique offering for the region that has earned her attention from media outlets such as Mushing magazine and Animal Planet.

The skijoring and sled-dog school teaches novices how to captain a team of dogs either in a sled or on skis, which can give them a way to skip long ski-resort lift lines. Marla also leads day excursions through DAR State Forest, Chesterfield Gorge and Westfield River, and the Deerfield River Watershed, keeping bikers, hikers, kayakers, and bird watchers safe as she is a certified wilderness first responder and an expert in swift-water safety and rescue.

Customer Reviews

They take their time to show us the dog sledding adventure and know exactly what to do in all situations. It was a great experience

It was really great. The dogs were so lovable and friendly. Marla was extremely knowledgeable and is very passionate about her wonderful dogs. She shares her knowledge professionally, and with the desire to teach accurately. I would have given 5 stars if the fact that the compound was all natural was on the website. Make sure you do not wear chemical bug repellant (deet) or Sun screen. The dogs love to lick, and the chemicals are not good for the dogs. Our family had a wonderful time, the scenery was beautiful.
