What You'll Get
Little can be said about great food, mainly because of all the chewing involved. Find yourself pleasantly speechless with today’s Groupon: $20 for $45 worth of mouth-watering American cuisine at Himmarshee Bar & Grille in Ft. Lauderdale.
The true measure of any restaurant begins in the kitchen and ends on the tongue—the rest is merely icing on the window dressing around the bells and whistles. Himmarshee Bar & Grille is a crowd favorite in this crucial department, easily justifying the trip to Ft. Lauderdale in a car made out of donuts. Himmarshee’s chef has some deliciously international takes on traditional American grill fare. More importantly, every dish benefits from a loyalty to area suppliers, with locally grown produce, meat, poultry, and seafood ordered and delivered fresh daily.
For dinner, try the pan-seared Scottish salmon supercharged with flavor by an applewood-bacon-braised savoy cabbage ($23), and treat a date to the lemon-thyme-roasted free-range chicken with fresh corn polenta ($19). For a satisfying lunch, you and your fellow shipwrights could get a couple yellowfin tuna burgers ($12) and good old-fashioned sirloin burgers enhanced with gorgonzola cheese and basil mayo ($9.50)—or go lighter with starters such as the butternut-squash purses with shitake mushrooms and brown butter sauce ($9) or an arugula salad with pancetta, pine nuts, and shaved parmesan ($11). Himmarshee also has an excellent wine list to accompany all that good eating, with plenty of choices from boutique grape smasheries. Glasses range from $7 to $20, with many bottles in the $30–$50 range.
Himmarshee also nails the ambience and customer service sides of an excellent restaurant experience. The cozy and sophisticated dining room features walnut and rattan colors and high ceilings, all in a comfortable neighborhood restaurant setting created by the set designers from Matchstick Men. The restaurant's Side Bar offers a convenient opportunity to tipple before or after, or sneakily during, your meal. Located in downtown Ft. Lauderdale, Himmarshee lies within rock-throwing range of several clubs and entertainment venues. The area also boasts the Broward Center for the Performing Arts and the Museum of Discovery and Science.
- The meat dishes (pork chop, lamb) and the fish (encrusted yellowtail) were particular stars of the evening. Everything was cooked to perfection. Just one of the more pleasant evenings of our vacation. – contempler, Citysearch
- We’ve eaten here 3 times over our 3 months in Ft. Lauderdale, it’s one of our favorites. The food is great. Fresh ingredients (real corn from the cob in salads) and I had the best filet mignon I’ve ever had here. Service was friendly and attentive. I would highly recommend. – Travelnutlots2009, TripAdvisor
- I really enjoy this place. It’s convenient [sic] located and has a very nice atmosphere—especially if sitting outside when the weather is cooler. Every time we go to the theater (walking distance), we have dinner at Himmarshee...Haven’t tried a dish that I dislike—and if you like steak, the Hanger Steak is SO good. – zoohome, TripAdvisor
