We absolutely LOVED our Christmas Candlelight Tour of Historic Brattonsville! It was a wonderful family experience and I really hope they participate in a Groupon offer next Christmas! Offering the additional offer in conjunction with the gift shop was really nice too!

Historic Brattonsville’s cadre of costumed historical reenactors breathes life into the area’s cultural history, and upward of 30 historic structures enable informative ambles amid 18th and 19th century architecture. Surrounded by grounds awash in the flickering glow of ignited wicks, Christmas Candlelight Tours facilitate festive journeys to the past without the hassles of making small talk with Jacob Marley’s ghost. Wanderers interact with historical re-creationists representing every facet of plantation life as groups expound on and demonstrate their individual Christmas traditions.

As hearts and minds overflow with seasonal spirit, visitors can experience the days of yore with hands-on activities such as candle dipping. Readings from A Christmas Carol and The Night Before Christmas treat ears to a soul-warming yuletide feast. Once guests have sampled slices of bygone life they can peruse the gift shop to scoop up historical goodies such as colonial cookbooks and rag dolls.

About Culture & Heritage Museums

Culture & Heritage Museums safeguard the Carolina Piedmont's historical treasures and educate residents and visitors about the region's unique past. Instituted in the 1950's, York County's group of affiliated museums and attractions forms a multi-campus network encompassing a wealth of educational opportunities across various disciplines.

Each year, museumgoers view antique documents and photographs at the Historical Center located inside the McCelvey Center. They can get to know more than 1,500 natural specimens at the hands-on Naturalist Center inside the Museum of York County, and march through Historic Brattonsville's 775-acre Revolutionary War site. Locals can volunteer at the museums in fascinating roles, such as specimen preparers, who beautify avian exhibits by helping with taxidermy and surgical beak-lifts.
