At Hord Studio, artist Timmy Hord, who has created art in a variety of media since the mid 1970s, teaches students of varying experience levels how to sculpt their own pottery. Participants age 12 and older can learn to manipulate mounds of clay spinning on a pottery wheel, or use the 2–3 hours to knead a hand-built masterpiece to display on a home mantel or to sneak into the MoMA. Although Hord’s Introduction to Clay class is structured for beginners, the clay-shaper can also tailor the session to suit more experienced sculptors. After class, an authentic kiln fires each creation to glazed perfection, and students can pick up their terra-cotta treasures at a later date or send for them via a very careful homing pigeon.
