Hungry stomachs are forced to contemplate cooking their own food while our brains are busy plotting ways to make Hollywood starlets fall in love with our ungainly cousins. Quell an insurgent appetite with today's Groupon: for $15, you get $30 worth of upscale fare at Horizons Restaurant & Bar in Wilbraham.
Horizons' chef and owner, Mark Melikian, tempts taste buds with a seasonal menu of sophisticated, largely American fare tinged with a European inflection. Douse hunger infernos with a seaworthy starter such as pan-blackened scallops ($9) or a chilled crab cocktail ($9.95), overwhelmingly preferred by seafood mixologists to the far less tasty grouper martini. Like a teddy bear in a tuxedo, lobster mac ‘n’ cheese ($22.95 for a full portion, $10.95 for a half) combines comfort with class, while grilled filet mignon ($25.95), veal romano ($17.95), and grilled pork tenderloin with au poivre sauce ($17.95) turn ordinary plates into invitation-only protein parties. A lunch menu features a selection of sandwiches and entrees, including the warm pastrami ($4.95) and the baked Chatham schrod ($10.95), to give midday munchers the energy to dominate afternoon thumb-wrestling tournaments.
Augmenting the flavor fireworks is the restaurant’s atmosphere of elegance and romance, with finery such as white linen tablecloths and fresh flowers making it a perfect destination for romantic nights out and marriage proposals performed entirely in Morse code.
Not valid for the lunch buffet.

About Horizons Restaurant & Bar
At Horizons Restaurant & Bar, owner and classically trained chef Mark Melikian uses farm-fresh ingredients to craft his seasonal menu of upscale American and European-inspired cuisine. He loads Maine lobster onto a plate of baked mac and cheese and pairs oven-roasted Atlantic cod with scampi-style shrimp and roasted baby red potatoes, which should be eaten quickly before they start teething. Other dishes include fried Camembert cheese with honey Dijon mustard for dipping and a nine-ounce, pan-blackened filet mignon with melted gorgonzola and a marsala-accented demi glaze. Each of Chef Melikian's artistic plates complements the elegant ambiance of his dining room, where stained glass chandeliers and fresh flowers create a gentle, romantic environment.
