Great food! Too bad they're closing down.
Polina B. · June 17, 2017
For me very pleasant as the food and owners brought back memories of East Africa. Especially liked the complimentary Karkadeh, a tea made from hibiscus-type tea-"bushes". Recommend the appetizers especially.

The only thing better than the pleasant and warm service is the wonderful food!

What You'll Get

Jump to: Reviews | Tips to Expand Your Business

Though the world has been completely explored, globed, and Google-mapped, the human tongue can still discover new continents. Today's deal takes yours to places the rest of your body can't visit with $35 worth of Northeast African fare and drinks at Horn of Africa for $15. Because exploring a new continent can be dangerous, bring along three friends and combine two Groupons for $70 worth of food and drink.

With tastes that elevated the business from a modest booth at Portland's Saturday Market to a self-standing restaurant, Horn of Africa serves up dishes from Ethiopia, Somalia, Djibouti, and the Middle East using only fresh, local, unfrozen ingredients. Horn of Africa's menu features many organic ingredients as seen in the traditional Marakha Lukku (chicken breast stewed in Beri-Beri sauce with garlic and onions, $9.95), Keluna (seasonal seafood marinated in Zanzibar-style herbs and spices, seared and stewed with veggies, $11.95), and chicken kebabs ($8.95). A variety of fresh vegetarian and vegan dishes are prepared, such as the collard greens that are the foundation of Raafu ($4.95) and Fuul (fava beans prepared with paprika and olive oil, $5.50).

Located slightly closer to Portland than Africa, Horn of Africa will treat P-Town foodies to all the colorful colors, aromatic aromas, and savory savor of Northeast African cuisine while avoiding the carbon emissions of a grueling roundtrip bus ride to Djibouti.
