On Saturday, October 18, the 9,000-square-foot, European-style digs of The Tasting Room Uptown Park will resound with the clinks of glasses, descriptions of fine varietals, and live music during The Grand Tasting—the signature event of the Houston Cellar Classic. From 1 p.m. to 5 p.m., tastings of up to 100 different wines from the restaurant’s extensive collection will be poured alongside culinary creations from local restaurants, overflowing from the restaurant’s interior onto an outdoor patio area. This Groupon grants VIP or general admission to the event as well as crystal stemware to take home. Though this year’s restaurant lineup is yet to be finalized, past years featured dishes from local establishments such as The Capital Grille, Fleming’s, and MAX’s Wine Dive. Proceeds from the event benefit St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
VIPs can enjoy the 60 wines available to general fest-goers, as well as 40 VIP-only varietals, pairings, and food from participating restaurants.
Houston Cellar Classic
When The Tasting Room's founders Jerry and Laura Lasco organized the first Houston Cellar Classic in 2003, they imagined a handful of local chefs and vintners showcasing their finest creations. Their humble gathering grew quickly, expanding from a one-day affair to a multiple-week series of events. In recent years, individual events have hosted nearly 1,000 people, all eager to sip and sample the finest libations and culinary treats the city has to offer.
Oenophiles from all over the state descend upon Houston ready to sample up to 100 wines from the restaurant's ample bottle collection and extend long-dormant pinkies. Guests also have ample opportunity to satisfy their palates with delectable creations whipped up by chefs representing restaurants throughout the city.

“It was a little over crowded and were weren't able to try the wine in the correct order or way it should be sampled. Although the people serving and the wine was a great selection. The food and entertainment outside was also very good. Overall I did enjoy myself.”
