Recently covered in the Houston Chronicle, the first Houston Fine Art Fair splashes the city's canvas with fine art from 80 galleries around the world. Hailing from Havana, Cuba, the La Casona gallery will display Douglas Arguelles’s deep-toned charcoal and acrylic paintings, while vivid photographs and pastel hues will dance across the booth of Bogota-based Arteconsultores. Works by American artists across the country⎯from New York to Miami to Los Angeles⎯also beckon arts aficionados, who can pick out pieces to decorate their walls or conceal up secret portals to alternate Lego universes. The fair will also display artistic oeuvres by current and soon-to-be fellows from the Glassell School of Art Core Program, a world-renowned artist residency.
Visitors who opt for the all-access pass can get into an artistic groove at the opening preview party on Thursday evening. There, connoisseurs can converse with other fine art fans as they sip on cocktails and nosh on hors d'oeuvres, discussing up-and-coming artists and their latest Frogger high scores. Guests will also get to pick and choose works for purchase from the fair's galleries and hobnob with some artists featured in the show.
Occupying a prominent space within the 95-acre Sculpture Fields at Nova’s Ark, the 7th annual ArtHamptons event celebrates post-war and contemporary artwork. In recognition of the Hamptons' international reputation as an inspiring summer playground for culturally savvy individuals, "Escape" will be celebrated in all its incarnations this year. The fair's 50,000-square-foot museum-like space will feature more than 3,000 different works of art, which are all available for acquisition.
Although the scope of its exhibits is international—consisting of works by more than 500 different artists as presented by galleries from more than 10 countries—ArtHamptons continues to celebrate the creations of established masters as well as emerging talent from the East End. Over the course of three days, attendees can take in the displays and attend various cultural events and programming.
