What You'll Get
Avoid arguments over whether to do dinner or catch a play with today’s crowd-pleasing Groupon. For $25, get epic-sized eats, entertainment, and VIP treatment at Howdy Dinner Extravaganza, a musical experience exploring the legend and lore of life during the Gold Rush era. Join Kitty McGuire and company at Mesa’s historic The Ranch for an interactive evening of food and fun and food.
Produced, written, and created by Ron Miziker (former parade planner for Disneyland and Epcot), this rowdy 90-minute revue gives audiences a flavorful flashback of 1880s life, minus the numerous diseases and tenuous statehood of the Dakotas. Here, family-style dishes are seasoned with song (even wait staff gets in tune) and peppered with light comedy. Wash down entrees with all-inclusive beverages (sodas, wine, beer, or a non-alcoholic Miss Kitty McGuire’s special brew.) The dinner menu features a fresh garden salad, French bread, stuffed chicken breast, braised beef shortribs, redskin garlic mashed potatoes, baked beans, and apple pie ala mode for dessert. Vegetarians can request a special plate.
Shows take place Fridays and Saturdays at 6:30 p.m., and on Thursday, November 19 and December 3. Call 48 hours in advance to reserve seating. This Groupon is perfect entertainment for fans of the movie Tombstone, those unimpressed with traditional holiday celebrations, and families looking for an affordable alternative to Disneyworld vacations that doesn't take place in a remote parking lot.
The Arizona Republic highlights the Howdy as age-pleasing entertainment and Miziker as a creative visionary:
- Over the years Miziker has planned and produced a dazzling array of shows, parades, revues and so on for Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Epcot and Tokyo Disneyland. One of his best-known creations is the Main Street Electrical Parade. – John Stanley, Arizona Republic
