Like hunting clay pigeons in a neighbor's backyard, modern photography is much more complex than simply pointing and shooting. Shoot straight and true with today's Groupon: for $49, you get a four-hour Seven Steps to Better Photography class at Hudson's Portrait Design in Renton (a $150 value).
Experienced photographer Bruce Hudson and his squad of shutter-snappers crystallize precious moments and teach others to do the same. Hudson Portrait Design's Seven Steps to Better Photography course begins with three hours of in-studio workshopping with Bruce. He will teach novices and seasoned shooters alike the basic functions of their digital cameras alongside technical skills such as manual focusing, choosing lenses, and editing out obstructive lens caps in postproduction. The classroom session also tutors photogs in lighting techniques and composition, and they will learn how to transfer stills into eye-pleasing prints, albums, and slideshows. Picture-pupils then follow Bruce out to the 1.3-acre portrait park for an hour to put their newfound knowledge into practice by individually cataloguing each blade of grass on the property. Classes run each month on select Saturdays and weekdays from 9 a.m., 1 p.m. to 5 p.m., and 2 p.m. to 6 p.m.
Hudson's Photo Workshops
In addition to teaching amateurs the ways of the camera, Hudson's Photo Workshops owner Bruce Hudson has been coaching professional photographers for over 25 years, all while being a Professional Photographers of America member, craftsman photographer author, and educator. When not teaching contemporary workshops designed for all skill levels, he creates portraits on location or at the Tukwila studio. The final images look wholesome and classic, ideal for a large custom wall display in your home. In addition to capturing portraits, the photographer outfits clients with prints and digital slideshows that facilitate online sharing. Classes elucidate photography techniques, including the rule of thirds and how to capture a 20-story human pyramid without a wide-angle lens.
