Q&A with Alexis Hernandez, Owner of Humans of Texas
Tell us about your business.
Humans of Texas is about telling life stories. Who are you? What floats your boat? Gets you up in the morning? Passion. Your personality, your interaction, your love. It's about being human. Yes, it's photography, but it's more than just an image. It's that time we all went to the beach. It's that fishing or hunting trip. It's what ever makes you, you.
What makes your business stand out?
I didn't name my photography studio Alexis Hernandez Photography, even though all the photography is done by me. I named it Humans of Texas because it's not about me and my ability to take an amazing image. An iPhone can take an amazing image; Humans of Texas is about you and capturing those moments and memories that mean something to you.
What inspired you to start this business?
I have been a photographer for 10 years and have worked at many different studios in that time. The number one thing I have heard from clients is that they got a bunch of pictures done, but now they sit in a drawer in the house. So I have always said [that] if I was running my own studio, I would make photography that meant something to the client. Something they would truly value and would want to share. Humans of Texas is the culmination of those experiences.
What is the best reaction you’ve ever gotten from a customer?
I have had some mothers cry after a photo session and thank me for my patience with their child. I actually like the tough ones; it means more to get that shot.
What’s your favorite part about your job?
I get to do what I love. Photography is the one great passion of my life. To be able to do that and make a living is a true blessing.
