A Chat with Hummingbird Hills Winery
What services does your business offer and what makes your business stand out from the competition?
We have a rustic place with that country feel and warmth with beautiful views. We take great pride in growing everything we produce. When you visit our winery you meet with the owners and will enjoy the first hand experience and knowledge and take home a lasting memory. We love to share our wine!
What is one of your most popular offerings? How is it prepared?
Our Lion’s Tooth which is our signature Dandelion Wine. It is an old fashioned heirloom wine that we have re created. We hand pick the yellow flowers and blend with golden raisins, lemons, limes, oranges, and zest from them. The finished product is a wonderful taste of spring. Enjoy!
What was the inspiration to start or run this business?
The inspiration comes from our love of wine and wanting to create forgotten old world traditional wines and make an artisan wine different from the norm. That is where our tagline “Escape from the Normal” comes from. They are different and not mass produced. We also use very little preservatives.
What do you love most about your job?
Creating unique and out of the ordinary wines. Working with the grapes and the feeling of working with nature and keeping things as simple as possible. We love sharing our wines, meeting wonderful people, and laughter. You will taste our love and passion for wine and life! Come out give us a try!!!
Hummingbird Hills Winery
Hummingbird Hills Winery started out as one couple's dream of a simpler life. While living in northwestern New Jersey, Ken and Kimm Schick saw more and more properties around them being purchased and developed. To escape the noise and traffic, they bought an old dairy farm in upstate New York and set to work planting thousands of grapevines along its scenic acres. They even transformed the farm's old cow barn into a winery.
Today, the Schicks welcome guests to enjoy the peace and beauty of Hummingbird Hills. They frequently host outdoor events and tastings of their wines, which are made with grapes grown right on the farm and minimal preservatives. Along with flavorful red and white wines, visitors can sample varietals made with elderberries, dandelion, and other fruits and botanicals.
