Stephen Sondheim’s A Little Night Music is a witty, urbane romance set to waltz time. The action takes place over a weekend at a country house in early 20th-century Sweden. Middle-aged lawyer Fredrik Egerman has been married to his teenage trophy wife for nearly a year, but she’s tenaciously holding onto her virginity. His eyes begin to wander to the other guests, and he finds himself searching for true meaning and fulfillment in a relationship. Sophisticated, literate and stylish, A Little Night Music is a warm and witty exploration of the complexities of love and heartache, and is most famous for the ballad “Send in the Clowns.” Catch Huntington Theatre Company’s production at the Boston University Theatre.
