Very interesting place where they restore historic hydroplanes and racing boats to fully functional condition. I have zero interest in hydroplanes and speedboat racing, but I found this very interesting since I was able to really look into the insides of these amazing boats, walk around and really learn about the boats and the racing history. The facility is manned by all dedicated volunteers and some of their stories were fascinating. It's a combination museum and workshop and you can explore all the areas. I highly recommend it if you're into this sport or just looking for something different to do for a coupe of hours.

About Hydroplane and Raceboat Museum

The Hydroplane and Raceboat Museum celebrates the thrill and wonder of hydroplane racing, and its the only museum of its kind in the United States. Along with historical books, race programs, trophies, and photos from the last century, its collection of hydroplanes from the past 70 years tells the story of the watery sport. The staff has brought seven famous Gold Cup and Harmsworth winners back to their fully operational states, and will even take members out on the water in one of their historical vessels for a Ride of a Lifetime.

Offering a glimpse back in time, they boast than 200 hours of racing footage dating back to the 1940s and share stories of legendary drivers including Mira Slovak and "Wild" Bill Cantrell, who was famous for solving crimes with the help of his artificially intelligent hydroplane.

However, the museum isn't just about the past. A lineup of regular events invites folks to show off their powerboats and hot rods to fellow enthusiasts, and races bring the excitement of the sport to the present day as boats cut through the waves vying for titles.

A great place to spend a few hours surrounded by the boats that shaped the history of SeaFair and the story of unlimited Hydroplanes in Seattle. The staff are knowledgeable, friendly, and full of stories about the boats and their drivers. Well worth the time!!!

Great experience for a rainy day. Enjoyed the history and personal stories of our guide. We were able to go at our own pace and see people actively building and restoring some boats. They have a great program for parent-kid boat building that we appreciated seeing. There was a lot packed in for the size of the space and would recommend it for any enthusiast.
