What You'll Get
Similar to tickling a bear without losing an arm, the art of breathing underwater requires years of practice and dedication. Introduce your lungs to aqueous awareness with today’s Groupon to HydroSports Dive and Travel. Choose between the following options:
• For $15, you get a two-hour deluxe Discover Scuba diving experience (a $35 value).
• For $199, you get a PADI Open Water diver-certification class (a $485 value, see below for information on additional required equipment).
HydroSports Dive and Travel grants landlocked wishes of undersea exploration via diving lessons, travel excursions, and top-quality equipment. After donning self-provided suits, stowing towels, and sitting through a brief tutorial, students submit to Discover Scuba's certified PADI instructor, who shows aquatic aspirants ages 10 and up the fundamentals of breathing underwater in the safe, kraken-free confines of a warm pool.
The PADI Open Water course drops students into an intensive aquatic academy that teaches divers everything they need to grow gills and safely explore the oceanic underworld free of police escorts. Five confined dives in a pool build confidence and safety skills before students venture with their instructor into the vibrant depths of the Hood Canal for four open-water dives, typically launched on weekends from The Yellow House in Hoodsport. (On-site lodging is available for $110 but not included.) Students return to underwater lairs bearing instruction books, a dive planner, and an application for certification. Flexible scheduling allows underwater explorers to complete course requirements in as few as four days or at a more leisurely, manatee-like pace.
Both courses send students home with a personalized, high-definition DVD with footage of the scuba session. HydroSports Dive and Travel provides diving-gear rental for both courses; participants in the Discover Scuba class only need to bring a towel and swimsuit, and participants in the Open Water course must have their own scuba-quality mask, snorkel, fins, and boots. Groupon customers can rent scuba gear for the duration of their diving session or class ($50), or purchase it at a 20% discount.
