The Scouting Report
From April 4 to October 26, the I-57 Drag Strip hosts a slate of drag-racing events on its 1/8-mile track. Each Friday night, lead-footed drivers test and tune their rides and rev their engines for grudge racing, followed by the structure of bracket and points racing on Saturday nights. About once a month, both the prize purse and the stakes escalate for events such as the $5,000 Win Super Pro and $1,000 Win Pro on April 26, and the $5,000 Win Super Pro and $2,000 Win Footbrake on July 3. The family-owned track lets auto enthusiasts get their fix of burnouts and wheelies without having to defy the odds and hire a full-time stunt double.
I-57 Drag Strip
The squeal of tires and the roar of engines cutting loose fill the air around I-57 Drag Strip, where drivers squeeze every ounce of power out of their engines as they dart down an arrow-straight, 1/8-mile track. As spectators enjoy the action, they can refuel with concession fare such as cheeseburgers, giant pretzels, and corn dogs that double as jousting sticks to determine a tiebreaker.
