About A River Thru History – The Des Plaines Valley Rendezvous

Each year, storytellers, folk musicians, trailblazers, and fur traders—yes, fur traders—make their way to Columbia Woods Forest Preserve for the Des Plaines Valley Rendezvous. They call it A River Thru History because it's a peek at the Illinois frontier prior to 1848, complete with trading posts, booming cannon fire, and canoe races. Visitors should keep their eyes open for celebrities too, like Jean Baptiste DuSable—the very first Chicagoan—who roams the camp telling first-person tales of early Illinois history.
