The morning ritual of breakfast mirrors the elegant cosmic dance of dawn, when the sun awakes to crack and scramble comets and then drink the Milky Way straight from the carton. Similarly rise and shine with today's Groupon: for $10, you get $20 worth of breakfast and diner fare at IHOP, valid at the 14th Street location in the East Village.

IHOP's vast menu ambles through all walks of eating life, running the gamut from pancakes and hearty breakfast combinations to lunch and dinner items. IHOP's signature pancakes make eyes at diners in seven sweet varieties, such as the new york cheesecake ($7.49 for four) or the newly created Cinn-a-Stack—buttermilk pancakes piled between cinnamon-roll filling and drizzled with cream-cheese frosting ($7.29 for four). Patrons can dive mouthfirst into the day's first meal with the breakfast sampler, which piles two eggs, bacon, sausage, ham, and fluffy pancakes on a single plate ($8.79). Harvest grain and nut pancakes ($6.99) keep bodies functioning at peak performance, offering diners a healthy alternative to fare served in a shark tank.

Tables creak under the weight of generous entrees, such as the pot-roast melt with tender morsels of slow-cooked USDA Choice beef bathed in mushroom gravy and melted cheese ($8.29). After 4 p.m., the dinner menu descends through the clouds, revealing the country-fried steak's crispy 8-ounce beefsteak smothered in sausage gravy and served with mashed potatoes and steamed broccoli ($9.99) or a cadre of burgers made with hickory-smoked bacon cooked into and resting atop a beef patty ($7.59–$8.99).

IHOP

The first IHOP—the dream of founders Al and Jerry Lapin—opened in 1958 in Toluca Lake, California, and was originally dubbed the International House of Pancakes. Since then, rapid expansion has led to myriad milestones across the company's colorful history, from introducing its modern IHOP acronym in 1973 to its 1,000th restaurant opening in Layton, Utah, in 2001. Today, the company stands strong with around 1,500 locations across North and Central America, each one an enthusiastic dispenser of pancakes, french toast, and tables constructed entirely out of bacon. Though IHOP is known as a bastion of breakfast, it also stays open during the day and into the evening, delivering lunch and dinner as well.
