Always & Forever seems to be “always and forever” a hit. From its first run at the Illusion Theater in 1996, when it played to packed houses week after week, to its acclaimed revivals in 2010 and 2011, Always & Forever lives up to its name as a perennial favorite. Set in a 1970s urban neighborhood barbershop, this musical revue mixes wisdom and song to portray different experiences of love. Featuring popular ’60s and ’70s R&B songs like “Can’t Get Enough of Your Love,” “Stop, Look, Listen,” and “When a Man Loves a Woman,” Always & Forever uses chart-toppers to chart the lives of four African American men and their relationships. Now Illusion Theater presents a special “concert version” of the show, presenting a streamlined production that showcases the score and performances.
