Before their musical capabilities were discovered, trumpets were often used as a way to display floral bouquets or siphon gasoline out of a neighbour's horse. Learn the proper way to use instruments with today's Groupon: for $50, you get a membership to the summer music and dance program at Impact Performing Arts Association (a $200 value). Rehearsals take place on Thursday evenings from 6:45 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the South East Edmonton Seniors Association.
Impact Performing Arts Association's experienced staff teaches students ages 12–18 to produce mellifluous tones in brass, drum line, or orchestral percussion ensembles, and choreographs dancers in the Impact Colourgard program. Enroll fledgling music makers in the brass ensemble, where students learn new music, breathing exercises, proper posture, and buzzing techniques crucial for blowing horns and signally surrendering to an oncoming swarm of bees. Drumsticks tap out rhythms during drum line rehearsal, and melodic sound waves radiate from myriad instruments such as cymbals and xylophones in the orchestral percussion ensemble. Students show off their newly learned repertoire during performances and at local, regional, and international competitions. Meanwhile, members of the colourguard and any passing Gumbys bend bodies, flags, and props to choreographed positions during individual showcases and joint performances with the music ensembles. Members also receive instrument rental, equipment rental, and an Impact t-shirt.
