I thought that Pete was very entertaining and the experience will certainly prompt me to attend more frequently.

What You'll Get

Comedy has come a long way since Trog the Cavemedian and his side-splitting act that involved making the audience watch him skin a moose in a funny way. See the progress for yourself with today’s Groupon for tickets to The Improv Comedy Club, conveniently located downtown. Choose from three shows:

  • $19 for two tickets to Chris Franjola and Sarah Colonna from Chelsea Lately on Friday, June 18 at 10 p.m. ($39 value)
  • $15 for one ticket plus an appetizer to Pauly Shore on Thursday, July 29 at 8 p.m. ($30.95 value)
  • $15 for one ticket plus an appetizer to Pauly Shore on Sunday, August 1 at 7 p.m. ($30.95 value)

Like most comedy clubs, The Improv chooses your seating, enforces a dress code, and has a two-drink minimum (though your appetizer counts toward this for the Pauly Shore options, making those one-drink minimums). For the Chris and Sarah show, both ticketholders are required to meet the two-item minimum.

Founded in New York City during the ‘60s, The Improv has since grown to be one of the top laugh houses around, having hosted celebrities such as Jerry Seinfeld, Steve Martin, Robin Williams, Tim Allen, Huckleberry Hound, and Jim Carrey. Chris Franjola and Sara Colonna are both writers and round-tablers on E!’s juggernaut of laughs, Chelsea Lately, headlining together and sharing the stage for stand-up and a duel to the eventual, gruesomely hilarious death. Pauly Shore became a world-famous comedian after the critically-acclaimed arthäus favorite, Encino Man and recently starred in Showtime’s Pauly Shore and Friends. You can enjoy either of Pauly’s shows with a mouthful of one of the appetizers included in this Groupon, including a special off-menu sampler platter that tosses together wings, mozzarella sticks and onion rings (a $10.95 value).

It takes 43 muscles to frown, 17 to smile, and roughly 317 to tell a bad joke, so it’s best to leave the funny business to the pros. Featuring an intimate setting, great food, and an abundance of booze-fueled, breath-shortening hilarity, The Improv will help you fulfill the daily dose of 8.5 laughs recommended by the American Chuckle Association.

Reviews can be mixed, but most agree that the entertainment provided at the Improv Comedy Club is a regular hootenanny, and the food is great. Seven TripAdvisors give 3.5 stars alongside fanatical Facebook fans: > * Our server was a lof [sic] of fun and we never had to wait too long for drinks. We shared a few appetizers which were yummy. The nachos are enormus [sic] !!! My friend got the bourbon burger. She let me try it and I was impressed, very good! My friend then somehow got hypnotized and ended up on stage! It was a lot of fun, we will definitly [sic] return to see another show! – awall1985, TripAdvisor > * I couldn’t believe the food was so good. We were very hesitant to by the package for dinner and show because we figured that the comedy club couldn’t possibly have food we would like. Boy were we wrong my husband and I ate every last bite of our Surf N Turf the filet melted in my mouth – villegirljudy, TripAdvisor

Pegaus News gave Pauly Shore a great review and Chelsea Lately, which stars Sarah Colonna and Chris Franjola, got a great review from the New York Times: > * Other targets of his sarcasm included Nicole Richey and Paris Hilton, the latter of whom needed a “serious reality check”. Naturally, this brought on raucous laughs of approval. – Andrew McElwee, Pegasus News > * Her sketches — a recent one about a self-obsessed Hollywood poseur trying to go green, and a YouTube favorite about hiring an assistant — can be uproarious. – Virginia Heffernan, New York Times
