Martial artists wear colorful belts to indicate their mastery of fighting techniques and their passionate disdain for suspenders. Achieve stylish self-defence strategies with today's Groupon: for $49, you get 10 drop-in women's self-defence classes at In Charge Self Defense (a $100 value). Classes are held at the Saskatoon Field House on Mondays from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m., and Wednesdays from 5:45 p.m. to 6:45 p.m.
Boasting a Level 3 NCCP certification and more than 19 years of martial-arts training, In Charge Self Defense's enthusiastic coach empowers women during energetic self-defence classes that combine Krav Maga, tae kwon do, and kickboxing. One-hour classes focus on practical self-preservation skills that give busy women ages 12–80 the tools to defend themselves against street assailants and toppling vending machines. While toning cores and building strength, pupils adapt exercises to their fitness levels and explore the defence mechanisms that feel the most functional for their abilities. Classes are small and built around the individual student rather than the group, so heroines need not worry about missing a beat if they miss a class.
In Charge Self Defense
At In Charge Self Defense, women master a mélange of karate, krav maga, kickboxing, and tae kwon do. Taught by a third dan black belt with Level 3 NCCP certification, the studio’s intimate classes help build self-confidence and discipline in students, while also borrowing fitness training techniques from yoga and Pilates. In Charge can work one-on-one with students for more personalized attention, and also offers co-ed training sessions for local high schoolers.
