Gas-powered cars will soon be replaced by electric cars, which will be replaced by two-person motorcycles powered by nightmares. Catch some combustion-engine action while you can with today's Groupon: for $22, you get four April 2 opening-night tickets to Indianapolis Speedrome on South Kitley (a $44 value). For children 6–11, tickets are $5 and children under five are free.
Indianapolis Speedrome is the home of the World Figure 8 Championship and one of the early tracks to implement stock cars. Guests of opening night will be welcomed to the storied arena at 6:53 p.m., with a command to have the cars start their engines at 6:58 p.m. For more than three hours, stock cars will burn pure adrenaline as they race on the stadium's oval and figure 8 tracks. The first hour's heats let each make and model bake the track to a golden brown, before the featured events burn it to ash as muscled Road Runners go head-to-head after spritely Bandoleros and parents pushing children on bicycles. The evening concludes with a showdown among high-class, custom late models and an on-track trophy presentation and potluck dinner. Seating is first come, first served, and attendees are encouraged to arrive early.
Rain date is April 9, 2011.
