Running outdoors is a great way to exercise your body, calm your mind, and help thaw out the icicles that grew on your elbows and heart during your weeklong corporate retreat to Mount Everest. Run in the sun without fear of Yeti attack with today’s Groupon for entry in the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra's Circle the City race event, held on Saturday, August 7. Choose from the following three race options:
- For $12, you get entry in the Circle the City 10K or 5K run/walk (a $25 value)
- For $7, you get entry in the Symphony Stroll (a $15 value)
- For $5, you get entry in the Junior Jog (a $10 value)
Circle the City, organized by the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra, offers different race options for runners of all ages and abilities. Each race begins and ends on Monument Circle, with routes that wind and weave through downtown Indianapolis. All races are also accompanied by the sounds of musicians from the ISO, allowing runners to be drenched in both sweat and swelling cello by race's end. Traverse the terrains of one of three races:
The 10K/5K races roll through the Mass Avenue Cultural District, the Indiana Memorial National Historic District, and, in the 10K course, the Old North Side neighborhood. Both races are electronically timed and scored, with the top-three male and female finishers in each age division of each race receiving a voucher for ISO concert tickets. The 10K race starts at 8 a.m., and the 5K race starts at 8:20 a.m.
The Symphony Stroll amicably ambles through downtown Indianapolis, with families welcome as well as pets, baby strollers, and basketball-playing dogs. The non-competitive stroll lasts one mile and begins at 8:05 a.m.
The Junior Jog invites up-and-coming Usain Bolts to run one lap around Monument Circle. The race is limited to children under the age of 10. No pets are allowed, but parents are welcome to join their track-running tykes on the course. Each Junior Jogger receives a race bib, a T-shirt, and a medal.
Registered participants receive one free admission to the ISO's Marsh Symphony on the Prairie concert, as well as a free event T-shirt and admission to the post-race party, featuring music from the Blue River Band as well as food and fun kids’ activities that don’t include eating dirt. Circle the City event sponsors include Finish Line, Bingham McHale LLP, WISH-TV, NUVO, and Vision Event Management. All proceeds from the races benefit the ISO Annual Fund, making Circle the City the best marriage of classical music and running since Beethoven wrote his Ninth Symphony during his morning treadmill jog.
