Shakespeare's unpopular Hamlet-themed cookbook opened with the question, "To eat or not to eat?" and ended with a depressing breadstick fencing fight. Learn to prepare dramatic eats with today's Groupon: for $27, you get a vegetarian and vegan cooking class at Indus Valley Yoga & Retreat Center in Conroe (a $55 value).
The gastronomic gurus at Indus Valley Yoga & Retreat Center impart chefs of all skill levels with vegetarian cooking know-how via hands-on cooking classes. Overseen by talented instructors, each interactive session engages students and provides information about the benefits of cooking with vegan ingredients, methods for preparing healthy meals from all food groups, and how Bill Gates invented the spork. Students will handpick up to three vegetables from the on-site organic garden and utilize other chef-supplied ingredients to compose a robust and healthy meal that, much like a college dissertation, they'll eat before graduating. Pupil-crafted feasts consist of a cornucopia of vegetarian delights, including a protein in the form of a bean, legume, or pulse; a portion of rice pullav; a tortilla; a yogurt dish; and a veggie–and-fruit salad. Enabling even the busiest of bees to attend, sessions are scheduled on the weekends all summer long. Enrollment is limited to 15 students per class session.
Nestled upon one and a half acres of organic horticulture, the Indus Valley Yoga & Retreat Center invites newly minted cooking whizzes to enjoy the tranquil outdoors while sitting in front of the outdoor fireplace, around the numerous fountains, or while lounging in a hammock made of recycled chairs.
