Scientists have isolated the physical manifestations of stress into three distinct forms: muscle tension, worry lines, and spontaneously sprouting bat wings. Today’s Groupon unfolds your scalloped wings with your choice of either a signature customized massage or primary deep-cleansing facial at Institut’ DERMed Spa for $35. Conveniently located in Buckhead, Institut’ DERMed’s spacious, 3,000-square-foot med spa is a clean and open sanctuary where the air smells sweetly of essential oils and enviable serenity.
If you choose the customized massage ($75 value), one of the med spa's skilled massage therapists will expertly remove knots from your muscles like a master sailor with surprisingly kempt hands. Relax into the gentle kneading and targeted strokes designed to relieve your long-term muscle pain, off-kilter aches, and anxiety about the alien "black oil." Your therapist will strategically place warm stones on your body to help your muscles achieve the optimum temperature for deep tension relief. As your muscles melt under the therapist’s touch, your senses will be energized by a bouquet of therapeutic scents chosen to work with your body’s specific needs, unless that need is for bacon cooked in seawater, which you'll have to concoct at home.
You also have the option of the primary deep-cleansing facial, worth $85. While street skincare scams will cover your face in cold spaghetti and tree bark, the skilled aestheticians at Institut’ DERMed will analyze your skin type before they offer a topical treatment, ensuring that the products shower your skin with chocolate puppy kisses. You’ll get a cleansing wash and indulgent steam to open up your pores for the work to come. Next, your skincare guru will extract the gunk and grossness that causes blackheads from your newly opened pores before applying a healing cosmeceutical mask. As your mask goes to work making your skin soft, smooth, and even, you’ll get an indulgent upper-body massage. Finish your treatment off with a dab of moisturizer to hydrate your mug and protect your face from the sun.
If you so choose, you can purchase up to two of these Groupons to combine both services. You may not, however, use two Groupons for the same service.
- The staff is very professional and helpful. The Estheticians and Massage Therapist are very knowledgeable and skilled. At Institiut Dermed you can expect results from the services and products. The products are a blend of botanical and pharmaceutical grade ingredients that you will not find at your average spa. – MsThomas37, Citysearch
- The facial itself was really great. I was scrubbed, cleansed and completely sold within the first ten minutes. They specialize in skin education and I have to say Kristen was very knowledgable [sic] and her touch was really relaxing as well. – Elizabeth M., Insider Pages
- The atmosphere is really nice and super clean. Had to write a review because I really love this spa and it's the only place I'll go- mainly because they offer massage but also have a ton of knowledge about skin care and skin treatments. – JessdAtl, Citysearch
Lyn Ross wrote the book on skincare. Or at least one or two of the books, cumulatively. She's authored numerous articles and textbook chapters on the topic, spreading the knowledge she's gained since opening her first natural skincare clinic in 1975, when most dermatologists still advised moisturizing with a rich crude-oil blend. In 1989, she established Institut’ DERMed—at once an Atlanta med-spa, a line of cosmeceutical products, and an aesthetician-training center.
Today, Ross and her staff make clients’ skin glow in a 3,000-square-foot facility filled with 11 private treatment rooms. At the College of Advanced Aesthetics, also headquartered in Atlanta, they train estheticians, cosmetologists, and doctors in product use and skin-treatment plans. Perhaps the element most central to Lyn's practice is her range of natural skin-care products crafted from concentrated but non-prescription active ingredients. The cleansers, serums, and exfoliants are formulated not just with carefully selected ingredients, but with carefully selected molecules—the company’s chemists reconfigure the very atoms of active substances so that the compounds will better penetrate the skin.
