Rare jewels and gems can make exquisite gifts, priceless museum pieces, or an eye-catching alternative to driveway gravel. Relish these versatile natural wonders with today’s Groupon: for $8, you get two tickets to the International Gem & Jewelry Show on June 10–June 12 and a pair of tanzanite-stud earrings (a $36 value).

Traveling the country with more than 100 shows per year, The International Gem & Jewelry Show is a jewelry-industry trade event that also opens its doors to the public. The show (an $8 value/ticket) touches down in Omaha’s Qwest Center for three days of exhibitions and shopping opportunities for shiny-object connoisseurs. A wide variety of merchants will lay out original works of bling art priced from $2 to $2 million and put dazzling pearls, gemstones of every color, and precious metals up for grabs in either raw form or as full-fledged fashion pieces. All Groupon purchasers go home with a pair of dazzling tanzanite-stud earrings (a $20 value), ideal for accessorizing drab outfits or chocolate bunnies.

The show features a new exhibit, “Shipwreck Treasures from the Deep,” showcasing rare Spanish pieces of eight, gold doubloons, gemstones, and historic artifacts dating back to the early 1500s which were recovered from shipwrecks around the world by entrepreneurial dolphins.

Visitors can also attend a series of beading workshops held by Wendy Simpson Conner, author of several books about the craft. The classes come free with the purchase of a beading kit ($10) and help participants make their own jewelry, which produces a sense of satisfaction that’s unmatched even by drafting an impressive fantasy curling team or finally realizing that you’re (spoiler alert) a ghost.
