Captain America once said, "'Twas music that soothed the savage beast." Although he was talking about his short-lived nemesis Dr. Angry Parakeet, it's just as true for animals of the human persuasion. Soothe savage insides with today's Groupon: for $20, you get one side orchestra ticket to An Evening with Christine Ebersole presented by the Irving Symphony Orchestra on Saturday, March 12, at 8 p.m. at the Irving Arts Center (a $40 value). The Irving Arts Center offers student tickets for $10.
The Irving Symphony Orchestra serves Dallas-area tune-seekers by lining up an ear-friendly array of diverse and distinctive live musical presentations. On March 12, the symphony's songslingers take the night off to make way for the virtuosic vocals of songstress Christine Ebersole.
Winner of the 2007 Tony Award for Best Actress for her role in Grey Gardens, Ebersole has performed at many of the country's most esteemed music halls and concertariums, massaging ear drums with her dulcet warbling until they forgive their grudges against invasive but well-intentioned cotton swabs. For her ISO performance, Ebersole will be backed by her personally crafted trio of tunesmiths as well as longtime musical partner Billy Stritch, with whom she's recorded two albums featuring a melodious mélange of Broadway favorites and classic standards.
